DisCos earned ₦203bn from consumers in april despite receiving ₦302bn energy — NERC

Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) generated ₦203.61 billion in revenue from customers in April, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The figure was contained in the commission’s Commercial Performance Factsheet for April.

In March, the distribution companies collected ₦196.13 billion, indicating a 3.8 percent increase in revenue by April.

The report also showed that the value of energy received by the country’s 11 DisCos rose from ₦293.76 billion in March to ₦302.96 billion in April.

According to NERC, the total value of electricity billed to customers increased to ₦252.43 billion in April, up from ₦246.43 billion recorded in March.

The DisCos posted a collection efficiency of 80.66 percent, reflecting a 1.07 percentage-point increase from the 79.59 percent recorded in the previous month.

NERC further stated that the industry’s billing efficiency stood at 83.32 percent in April, slightly lower than the 83.89 percent recorded in March.

The commission added that electricity distribution companies achieved a revenue recovery efficiency of 82.11 percent, with an average actual collection of ₦102.13 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), compared to the approved average tariff of ₦124.39/kWh.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) emerged as the top-performing utility in revenue recovery efficiency, recording 102.09 percent.

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) followed with 89.77 percent, while Ikeja Electric posted 88.89 percent.

NERC said the three companies recorded the highest revenue recovery efficiency among Nigeria’s 11 electricity distribution companies in April.
