Dismissed police officer among POS robbers set ablaze in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has announced that a dismissed Police Officer was one of the two alleged point-of-sale robbers who were set ablaze in the state on Wednesday.

After claims that one of the alleged POS robbers who was recently set on fire by a mob near Bissala Road, Independence Layout in the state, was a serving policeman in the New Haven Police Division, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ammani, rejected the claims.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, provided a statement to our reporters on Friday, November 11, 2022, in which the CP referred to the news as being false.

The command claimed that the only information found in the records was that one of them, Ogbobe Benjamin, had been dismissed long ago from the Nigeria Police Force as a Police Constable for acts of indiscipline.

“State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department is ordered to carry out a discreet investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and those involved.

“No matter the circumstance, resorting to self-help to carry out acts of jungle justice in such a manner, without recourse to extant laws and the criminal administration system, is totally condemnable and tantamount to the commission of a crime in itself,” the Commissioner reiterated.

He issued a strong warning against such vile and abhorrent activities that contravene the Constitution’s provisions and other existing laws, particularly when it comes to a person’s inalienable rights, and hinder the command’s efforts to fight crime and criminality in the state.

The CP added asked state residents to always uphold the law and support the Police in thwarting criminals and their schemes.
