DSS apprehends alleged Boko Haram leader in Ogun

Following the reported arrest of a suspected Boko Haram leader on Sunday, anxiety pervaded various areas of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

On Sunday afternoon, a private radio station in Abeokuta broke the news, which sparked terror among the state’s citizens.

According to reports, Department of State Security Service agents detained the suspect on Saturday night.

On Sunday, a recording of the report quickly became popular on the state’s social media sites.

The suspected plots by alleged terrorists to strike various states in the South-West are fueling the development.

However, reports has it that the alleged Boko Haram leader was detained just a few days ago in Abeokuta’s Ijaye neighborhood.

According to reports, the suspect first put up a fight before yielding to the DSS agents’ greater strength.

The operation was said to have taken place on Saturday night.

According to the radio report, the suspected terrorist is said to have traveled from Katsina to Abeokuta and taken a security position at Ijaye while gathering information for terrorist activities.

The security source said, “He (the suspect) moved to Abeokuta to set up terrorists’ cell for kidnapping and terror attacks.

“And following an intelligence gathering, the gun-wielding security operatives stormed his hideout and picked him up.

“It was not an easy ride. Intelligence and the grace of God were sufficient for the operatives.

“There are still many of them around, but we are on top of our game.”

Reports has it that the suspect is still being held by the DSS.

The DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, was reached, but he didn’t reply to the text sent to his mobile number.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s police public relations officer, claimed to be unaware of any arrests.
