Operatives of the Department of State Services have apprehended a man identified as a notorious bandit during a surprise raid in Bojinji Village near Bauchi.
During the operation, security personnel also seized millions of naira and multiple rounds of ammunition.
Sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama revealed that the suspect had relocated from Zamfara to Bauchi, claiming he was fleeing persecution.
He reportedly settled in the village with his family. While Bauchi frequently receives people escaping violence from neighbouring states, security officials note that some criminals take advantage of this movement to conceal their activities.
The raid was carried out without warning and left many residents shocked. A security source explained that “the DSS traced the suspect’s illicit wealth and movements before executing the operation.”
Investigations showed that the suspect was well-known in the area for living extravagantly. He reportedly spent most of his time drinking at Unguwar Yelwan Angas and buying alcohol for others.
However, no one suspected him of any crime until the DSS moved in.
Security officials are calling on residents to help by reporting anyone whose lifestyle seems suspicious or far beyond their means.
They say this kind of vigilance can help prevent crime and expose hidden criminal networks.
Sources also confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to find out how far the suspect’s activities reached and whether he had any accomplices in the state.
