The Department of State Security Service in Imo state announced on Wednesday that its operatives had apprehended the masterminds of the state’s ongoing attacks.

The state’s Director of the Department, Wilcox Idaminabo, told a stakeholders meeting in Owerri, the state capital, with the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Sylvia Agu, that the secret police and other security agencies were committed to ensuring long-term peace in the state.

He revealed that the agency had made a significant breakthrough in combating insecurity in the state.

Idaminabo stated that the ringleaders responsible for the recent attack on the INEC headquarters in Owerri as well as other government facilities had been apprehended.

The DSS director said the department had also dislodged the bandits’ camp at Orsu, where the hoodlums had made their headquarters.

According to him, the constant raid by operatives of SSS led to the arrest of one Mike Ahize, who he said is the leader of the hoodlums in the Orsu Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the pounding of the hoodlums’ camp in Orsu had made them relocate to Aku/Ihube axis along the Okigwe expressway, where they continued their attacks.

Ibidaminabo, however, expressed delight that another leader, named Ejima, was arrested on Tuesday night.

He said, “We have continued to comb their camps and cells in Orsu, Njaba, Orlu and Okigwe, and our onslaught, especially at Njaba left to the arrest of one Ejima who has been threatening to burn down the state. I am happy to announce that just last night (Tuesday), we apprehended him, and he’s now in our custody.

“We also recovered a lot arms, ammunition and charms from him.”

He appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies to ensure that the hoodlums were arrested and made to face the law.
