Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has expressed concern over the delay in the payment of salaries and pensions to local government workers in the state.

Describing the situation as troubling, the governor has directed the chairpersons of the state’s 13 local government areas to ensure all outstanding payments are cleared by 2 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2024.

This directive was outlined in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.

Governor Nwifuru reaffirmed his commitment to delivering good governance guided by the people’s charter of needs, emphasizing that efforts to fulfill the administration’s social contract with the citizens will not be undermined.

“By 2 pm tomorrow, all the staff of the Local Government should receive their salaries and pensions,” the CPS said in a statement on Sunday.

“We are determined to deliver good governance to our people. If you are for us, you join us in what we are doing, if you are not you leave”.

“If by 2 pm tomorrow, staff are not paid October and November salaries, the chairmen should resign,” the Governor insisted.

Local government employees in Ebonyi state are owed salaries for October and November.
