The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Council of Ministers convened its 93rd ordinary session on Thursday at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja.

Chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the session focused on key governance, economic policies, and regional integration issues.

In his opening remarks, ECOWAS President Omar Touray praised President Bola Tinubu and the people of Nigeria for their support of the regional bloc.

He emphasized that the timing of the Council’s gathering was particularly significant given the ongoing challenges facing the region.

Touray also informed the Council that 30 specific agendas, covering areas such as trade, security, agriculture, and stability, would be thoroughly discussed.

He expressed concern over the decline in community remittances over the past six years, noting that only 40 percent of remittances have been received from member states.

Additionally, Touray commended the peaceful elections held this year in Liberia, Senegal, Togo, and Ghana, highlighting the importance of peaceful democracy in the region.

He urged member states to reaffirm their commitment to the core values of ECOWAS.
