The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the certificate of return to Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the winner of the Edo State Governorship election.
The presentation ceremony took place on Thursday at INEC headquarters in Abuja.
Okpebholo was declared the winner of the election, held on Saturday, September 21, after securing 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes.
Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) finished third with 22,763 votes. Fourteen other candidates contested the election but received fewer votes compared to the top three contenders.
The APC candidate won in over 10 of the 18 local government areas, while the PDP secured marginal victories in the remaining councils. The APC also gained control in two of the three key senatorial districts in the state.
