Unofficial results for the Edo governorship election held earlier today, Saturday, September 2024 have started trickling in.
The election was dubbed a three-horse race between candidates of the three major parties – Asue Ighodalo (PDP), Monday Okpebholo (APC), and Olumide Akpata (Labour Party).
However, each candidate was said to have their strongholds and expected to scoop majority votes from such areas.
So far, results from polling units of the strong contenders showed Ighodalo floored at the polling unit of incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The PDP recorded a landslide victory at the Governor’s Polling Unit PU19, Ward 04, Oredo Local Government Area (LGA).
Results announced at the polling unit showed that Ighodalo polled 127 votes, leaving Okpebholo in distant second with only 35 votes.
Akpata garnered 11 votes to finish a far distant third.
The Labour Party candidate also lost at his own polling unit to his PDP opponent.
Results from Akpata’s polling unit at Ward 06, Oredo LGA showed he received scored 32 votes, trailing Ighodalo who polled 41 votes while Okpebholo got 19 votes.
The APC candidate on the other hand also won his polling unit. At Polling Unit 001, Uwessan 1, Esan Central LGA APC scored: 102 PDP: 1 LP: 1.
