EFCC apprehend man who threatened to kill EFCC chairman

Agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended Kayode Cole for making a death threat against the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

According to Dele Oyewale, the spokesman for the EFCC, Cole was apprehended at the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

The suspect issued the death threat via his Instagram handle, “1billionsecretss,” while commenting on a post shared by the popular Instagram blogger, Instablog9ja, on February 1, 2024.

Instablog9ja had shared a story with the headline: “A Religious Sect Is Laundering Money for Terrorists. We Traced N7 Billion Fraud Proceeds to another Religious Group – EFCC Chairman.”

In response to the post on Instablog9ja, Cole commented in the section, stating that the EFCC chairman would be deceased within six months.

“He will be dead in six months. This man will be dead in 6 months remembered, I said it”, he said. In the course of interrogation,  the suspect claimed that he was just “chasing clout.” He will be handed over to the appropriate authority for further investigation and prosecution.

On Wednesday, January 30, 2024, at the Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, disclosed during a one-day dialogue on “Youth, Religion, and the Fight against Corruption” that the commission had discovered a religious sect in Nigeria laundering money for terrorists.

Olukoyede also revealed that another religious organization had been found to be shielding a money launderer after funds suspected to have been laundered were traced to the organization’s bank account.
