EFCC apprehends fake Senator for alleged €5.7million fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended a counterfeit Senator named Ifechukwu Tom Makwe on suspicion of engaging in internet fraud amounting to €5.7 million (equivalent to Five Million, Seven Hundred Thousand euros).

Makwe was taken into custody in the Guzape area of Abuja based on reliable intelligence regarding his involvement in fraudulent activities online.

During the arrest, it was revealed that the suspect, who goes by multiple aliases such as Fahad Makwe, Senator Tompolo, Tom Makwe, and Dr. Bran, defrauded a Spanish individual of €5.7 million.

Makwe allegedly portrayed himself as an agent of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and a diplomatic solicitor, successfully deceiving the victim by employing fake identities.

According to reports, the suspect initiated the fraudulent scheme in 2013 after initially encountering the victim on social media.

The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, stated that once the investigations are concluded, the suspect will be prosecuted in court.
