Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested former Taraba State governor, Darius Ishaku, over an alleged N27 billion fraud.
Ishaku, who completed his tenure as governor in 2023 after eight years in office, was reportedly taken into custody from his residence in Abuja early Friday morning.
According to sources within the EFCC, the former governor remained in the agency’s custody as of Friday night. One insider revealed that at least 15 charges have been prepared against Ishaku, with plans for his court arraignment soon, as the evidence against him has already been compiled.
“Yes, he’s currently in our custody. We’ve been conducting a covert investigation on him since his term as governor ended. There’s significant evidence of financial misconduct during his time in office,” the source disclosed.
Another EFCC official indicated that Ishaku was detained after failing to provide satisfactory explanations regarding financial irregularities that occurred during his administration.
When contacted, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the arrest but declined to provide further details.
Ishaku’s arrest follows the EFCC’s ongoing investigation into former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, who is accused of misappropriating N80.2 billion.
