EFCC arrests woman in Gombe for alleged Naira Abuse

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a woman for allegedly abusing the naira in Gombe State.

The suspect – Janty Emmanuel — was nabbed on Monday, May 20, 2024 by investigators from the anti-graft’s Gombe Zonal Command.

This was disclosed in a Tuesday statement by the EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale.

“She was arrested on Monday, May 20, 2024  following intelligence that spotted her spraying  Naira notes at a social event,” the statement read.

“Upon arrest, the suspect was shown the video where she was dancing at G-Connect, Tumfure, Gombe State and spraying Naira notes of N1000 denomination.

“She admitted committing the crime. She will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”

The anti-graft agency has, of recent, clamped down on Nigerians abusing the local currency, including prominent figures.

Among them is Bobrisky who was on April 12 sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine for abusing the Nigerian currency – naira.
