EFCC returns $132,362, ₦78.5m to Foreign fraud victims

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned $132,362.43 and ₦78,566,324.81 to fraud victims from the United States, Spain, and Switzerland.

The EFCC described the move as part of its commitment to tackling financial crimes and ensuring restitution for victims.

The handover was conducted by EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja. He emphasised that the Nigerian government remains dedicated to fighting corruption and strengthening global partnerships against financial crimes.

The funds and assets, including vehicles and property, were handed over to representatives from the embassies of Spain, the US, and Switzerland for onward transmission to victims.

The Acting Ambassador of Spain to Nigeria, Maria Higon Velasco, and representatives from the FBI and the Swiss Embassy commended the EFCC for its efforts. They praised the restitution as a significant step in international collaboration against financial crimes.

 

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also applauded the move, stating that it enhances Nigeria’s global credibility and boosts investor confidence.
