The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has formally handed over the property and assets of Nok University, Kachia, in Kaduna State, to the Federal Government.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukayode, presented the institution’s documents to the Minister of Education at an event witnessed by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had, in June 2024, ordered the final forfeiture of the property, previously owned by a private individual.

Following this, President Bola Tinubu directed the Federal Government to transform Nok University into a Federal University of Applied Sciences, aiming to boost development in Southern Kaduna, which has suffered setbacks due to insecurity.

Speaking at the ceremony, attended by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and Southern Kaduna stakeholders, Vice President Shettima emphasised the administration’s commitment to national development and inclusivity.

“This is a significant day for Nigeria and Kaduna State. The greatest credit goes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising this initiative in the Federal Executive Council. We must learn to live together as brothers or risk perishing together as fools,” he stated.

He also acknowledged key figures instrumental in the transition process, including General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, and Senator Sunday Marshall.

“The President has already instructed the Minister of Education to ensure the university is included in the 2025 budget, so by September, it can admit its first set of students,” Shettima added.

Governor Sani praised President Tinubu for realising the vision of establishing the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Southern Kaduna. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, ensuring all interests within the state are considered.

Meanwhile, EFCC Chairman Olukayode confirmed that the court had granted final forfeiture of all university assets, including academic buildings, a water factory, an international hotel, and an event centre.

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, described the university’s establishment as a testament to President Tinubu’s dedication to expanding Nigeria’s human capital development.

Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa hailed the move as a milestone for Southern Kaduna, praising the President’s continued support for the region and the nation.

“This is not just a project for Kaduna but for all Nigerians. The university will enhance national capacity and bring peace to the region,” he remarked.
