EFCC unable to present Emefiele in court

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele failed to appear at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on Monday.

This is in spite of a directive from the presiding judge, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi, instructing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure his presence in court for the hearing related to his motion on fundamental rights enforcement.

Justice Adeniyi had issued a ruling last week, instructing the anti-graft agency to unconditionally release the former CBN governor or bring him before the court for the proceedings regarding his bail.

This decision stems from his arrest by the EFCC, which occurred shortly after he was released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in late October.

The court has rescheduled the proceedings for Wednesday, November 8, to consider Emefiele’s motion on notice and for his legal representatives to submit further documentation.

Additionally, the court has reiterated its previous directive from November 2, emphasizing the requirement for Emefiele’s unconditional release or his appearance in court on Wednesday.
