As Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on political leaders to focus on the welfare of citizens and uphold justice in governance.

In a statement on Friday, CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh congratulated Nigerians, particularly the Muslim faithful, and urged reflection on the values of humility, compassion, justice, and devotion to God exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad.

“These values transcend religious boundaries and point us towards building a society anchored on peace, fairness, and mutual respect,” Okoh said.

He stressed that Nigeria is at a “critical crossroad”, with governance challenges, economic hardship, and the public’s yearning for credible leadership requiring leaders to embrace accountability and compassion.

“We therefore urge political leaders at all levels to use this solemn season to embrace justice in their decisions, ease the burdens of hardship on citizens, and foster policies that strengthen unity and uphold the dignity of every Nigerian,” he stated.

Okoh added that integrity and fairness must guide leadership if Nigeria is to achieve peace and prosperity.

He also extended warm wishes to Muslims across the country, praying that the celebration would inspire stronger unity across faiths and renew shared hope for a just and prosperous Nigeria.
