Eight dead, six injured as vehicles crash in Bauchi

Eight persons were killed in a multiple car crash that happened at Shadarki Village along the Darazo – Bauchi road in the Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The accident, which happened 12 kilometres from the Federal Road Safety Corp.’s Darazo Base, also injured six additional persons to varying degrees.

The disaster happened on Wednesday afternoon, according to the FRSC Sector Commander Yusuf Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday night.

He said that two vehicles—a private and a commercial one—were involved in the collision.

“The crash occurred on Wednesday at 1.32 pm and we were immediately informed about it. Our men rushed to the scene of the incident within 10 minutes for a rescue operation.

“The crash involved 14 people – five male adults, six female adults, two male children and one female child.

“Immediately our rescue team arrived at the scene of the incident, they evacuated the victims to the General Hospital, Darazo, for medical treatment and confirmation.

“While there, a medical doctor confirmed eight of them dead. The corpses were deposited at the morgue while the injured are being treated.

“Those confirmed dead – two male adults, three female adults, two male children and one female child. Three male adults and three female adults sustained bruises, head injury and fracture,” he said.

Abdullahi said that the two vehicles involved in the crash are a white private Toyota pickup van with registration number: BPP 041 while the second one is a Volkswagen Golf car, also white in colour with registration number: DX 65 EKY.

“The crash was caused by wrongful overtaking.”
