A member of the House of Representatives representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, Mr. Akinlayo Kolawole, has disclosed that he has successfully attracted transformative projects worth ₦1bn to enhance development across Ekiti State over the past three years.
The All Progressives Congress lawmaker stated that he has provided quality representation and tangible benefits for his constituents, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, education, and employment generation.
Kolawole highlighted key achievements in infrastructure, education, and employment, pointing to his collaboration with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration to raise living standards for residents of Ekiti.
In a statement issued by the media unit of his office on Thursday, the lawmaker presented a detailed review of initiatives and projects executed throughout his constituency, emphasising that his governance approach prioritises “tangible impact, rather than political patronage.”
He explained, “Although a total sum of ₦200m was allocated as constituency project funds, we have been able to facilitate projects worth over ₦1bn through a combination of federal interventions, capital projects, and partnerships with agencies such as the World Bank. This is to complement what our beloved governor is doing.
“There is no constituency allowance as often misconstrued. What we have are constituency projects and zonal interventions, and I have maximised these opportunities for the benefit of my people.”
On infrastructure, Kolawole mentioned road projects, including the Osan-Ora boundary road and other initiatives aimed at improving connectivity within rural areas. He acknowledged that the Ikosu–Erinmope Road was executed by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s administration.
In the health sector, he disclosed that general hospitals in Iye and Otun-Ekiti have been remodelled, and health centres in Eda-Oniyo, Ikosun, and other communities renovated. Modern equipment was procured to enhance service delivery.
Regarding energy and utilities, he said solar street lights were installed across parts of the constituency to boost security, while transformers were provided to strengthen electricity supply.
In education, several public schools, including Osi Primary School and Ikosun Comprehensive High School, were renovated, and new classroom blocks constructed. “To enhance security, fencing was carried out to ensure the safety of pupils under the administration of Governor Oyebanji. Beyond infrastructure, over 750 students have benefitted from scholarships and financial support, while books and learning materials have been distributed to schools.”
The lawmaker also stressed his commitment to human capital development through skill acquisition programmes and training initiatives, empowering youths and women and facilitating employment opportunities. He added that over 30 individuals have been engaged in various roles, including five recent placements, and coordinators have been appointed in each community to monitor projects and ensure accountability.
In legislative matters, Kolawole highlighted his membership of the Electoral Reform Committee and contributions to national debates, such as advocating a fair Value Added Tax distribution model based on consumption. He also sponsored bills to establish a Federal School of Nursing and Midwifery to support the Federal Teaching Hospital in Ido Ekiti.
Expressing loyalty to the ruling party, he indicated confidence in securing the party’s ticket in future elections, stating his preference for direct primaries, as “consensus arrangements often favour weaker candidates.” “I am not afraid of direct primaries. Ultimately, the people will decide,” he said.
He also praised former Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, as “a key figure in Ekiti North politics.”
