Ekiti road is a death trap, monarch laments to Oyebanji
Oba Adebanji Alabi, the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti and a former Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, has urged the state Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to move swiftly to restore the damaged section of the Ado Ekiti-Ilawe Ekiti Road.
Aside from the danger to life posed by the segment of the road that has been sinking for about four months, according to Alabi, “it has brought untold hardship and agony to the people of the town and all motorists plying the route.”
The state government was commended by the traditional ruler for repairing a damaged drainage system in another area of the road. However, the traditional ruler urged the government to “direct the site contractor to immediately commence work on the big gulf which has become a death trap.”
The monarch spoke during a banquet for prominent Ilawe Ekiti natives on Monday, according to a news release issued on Tuesday by his media adviser, Chief Ajibade Olubunmi.
According to Oba Alabi, he had implicit faith that Oyebanji, the Governor, would move quickly to fix the road.
The traditional Head of State admonished citizens in his domain to quit uncalled-for infighting, saying such would not help anyone, and asked Nigerian politicians to refrain from using thugs before and during the 2023 national elections.
He praised the people of Ilawe for their cooperation and urged them to “continue the good work in the incoming year. I congratulate our people for witnessing this year’s Christmas and wish all a happy and prosperous 2023”.
Chiefs, legislators, youth leaders, opinion leaders, and various leaders of social organizations were among the notable indigenous people present at the event.
