Electoral commission refutes releasing LG election timetable for Ogun

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission has distanced itself from a rumored local government elections timetable circulating online, which claimed that elections would be held in October.

This response comes after an online news item, supposedly from the commission, titled ‘Notice of the Year 2024 Local Government Elections In Ogun State,’ surfaced.

The news item cited the commission’s chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, as stating that elections for the 20 local governments and 236 wards in the state would take place on October 26, 2024.

However, the state electoral commission clarified that no date has been set for the local government elections in the state.

The commission labeled the circulating information as fake news and urged the public to disregard it.

The statement assured that the public would be duly informed once elections are scheduled.

It also emphasized that Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration recognizes the importance of local governments as the third tier of government and is committed to ensuring democratically elected representatives are put in place.
