Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, has launched Grok 3, a new AI model designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and China’s DeepSeek. Musk introduced Grok 3 as “the smartest AI on Earth,” and showcased its impressive reasoning capabilities with benchmark tests.
According to Musk and his team, Grok 3 outperforms other AI models, focusing on more accurate, contextually relevant responses. Grok 3 promises continuous improvements, with a voice interaction feature expected within a week.
Premium Plus subscribers on X will be the first to access Grok 3’s advanced features, and users must update their X app to the latest version to start using it.
During his announcement about Grok 3 Musk unveiled the establishment of an AI gaming studio at xAI. Through his invitation to developers he indicated xAI’s new focus on AI game development as part of its AI research initiatives.
Grok 3 has already shown impressive performance, beating smaller models in the AIME 2025 exam. Although the smaller models performed better last year, Grok 3’s reasoning model displayed stronger generalization abilities.
xAI also announced that Grok 3’s pre-training is complete, and the model is still undergoing refinement. A mini version of Grok 3 is also being trained, sometimes outperforming the main version. This shows the vast potential for Grok 3 once its full capabilities are realized.
Grok 3 is rolling out to Premium Plus subscribers today, with a Super Grok subscription available for those seeking the most advanced features. A new website, Grok.com, and the Grok iOS app are now live, with plans to launch the app on Google Play soon.
