#EndBadGovernance: IGP Egbetokun confirms four deaths in Borno

Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has urged the organizers of the planned nationwide protest to maintain peace, as he confirmed the deaths of four individuals in Borno state.

Speaking at a news conference in Abuja, Egbetokun acknowledged the constitutional rights of citizens to assemble and express their views on national issues.

However, he expressed concern about the dangers posed by agitation fueled by individuals exhibiting disloyalty to the current government.

He noted that, despite the police’s professional conduct and efforts to provide security at strategic locations to ensure a peaceful protest, hoodlums infiltrated the event and initiated looting.

Egbetokun stated that the police force is on high alert nationwide to prevent further looting and property destruction.

He assured that the police are prepared to respond appropriately to the situation and will seek assistance from other security agencies, including the military, if necessary.

He also reported that several police stations across the country were set ablaze by rioters.

He lamented that events in major cities on Thursday were “mass uprising and looting, not protests”.
