Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged to act on the recommendations of the committee that investigated the August 1, 2024, End Bad Governance protest, which resulted in the loss of 10 lives and property damage exceeding ₦11 billion.

Governor Yusuf made this commitment while receiving the committee’s report from its chairman, Justice Lawan Wada (rtd.), during the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House on Monday.

The protest, which escalated into violence, claimed 10 lives, left seven others critically injured, and caused significant destruction to both public and private properties across the state.

“This is a tragic loss for the people of Kano. The destruction of lives and properties is unacceptable, and our administration will take appropriate action to ensure justice is served,” Yusuf stated.

The governor emphasized that his government did not interfere in the committee’s six-month investigation, allowing them full independence in their work.

“I have confidence in the integrity and professionalism of the committee members. They were selected based on merit, and I am optimistic that they have done their job without bias,” he added.

Justice Wada, while presenting the report, said the committee visited all affected areas and consulted with various stakeholders to compile a detailed account of the protest’s impact.

“We engaged with victims, security agencies, and eyewitnesses to ensure a comprehensive report. The loss of lives and destruction recorded is unfortunate, and we have recommended measures to prevent future occurrences,” Wada said.

Meanwhile, the governor commended the committee for its efforts and assured that its recommendations would be implemented to serve as a deterrent against future violence.

“The government will take action to ensure such incidents do not reoccur. Those who sponsor violence and destruction must face the consequences,” Yusuf affirmed.

The report’s release and the government’s commitment to implementing its recommendations mark a significant step toward accountability and justice in Kano State.
