The Kaduna State government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan cities with immediate effect.
The decision was made following an emergency security council meeting, presided over by Governor Uba Sani, to assess the security situation in the state.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the curfew was imposed because the ongoing protest had been hijacked by criminal elements who were looting shops and destroying private and public property.
The statement urged citizens to remain indoors while security forces work to maintain safety and order.
Similarly, Plateau and Katsina states have also imposed curfews in response to violent protests.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang announced a 24-hour curfew on the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, effective from midnight on Sunday, August 4th, 2024.
The Katsina Police Command also stated that the curfew in Dutsinma Local Government Area and the twelve-hour curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. in the rest of the 33 LGAs of the state remains in effect.
