Officials from the Kano State Government, led by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, expressed support for the Federal High Court’s decision to dismiss charges against some #EndBadGovernance protesters detained in Kano.

The delegation attended the court session in Abuja to stand in solidarity with the minors.

These teenagers will be taken to the Presidential Villa, where they will be officially handed over to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf.

Later today, the minors will be flown to Kano for rehabilitation and will then be reunited with their families.

On Tuesday, Justice Obiora Egwuatu struck out the case against the minors following a request from M.D. Abubakar, counsel to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), to assume control of the case and withdraw it.

Represented by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPPF), Mohammed Abubakar, AGF Lateef Fagbemi invoked his authority under Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution to take over the case from the Inspector General of Police.

After Justice Egwuatu approved this request, the AGF then applied to discontinue the trial of all 119 defendants under the same constitutional provision.

With no objections from the defense lawyers, Justice Egwuatu granted the motion, dismissing all charges and ordering the immediate release of the accused, who were not present in court.

This action follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive on Monday to terminate proceedings, as most of the defendants are reportedly minors, and thus legally exempt from such prosecution.
