Enugu election: Governor Ugwuanyi, LG bosses meet over killings

Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi called an emergency security meeting with key stakeholders from five local government areas on Thursday, citing the state’s deteriorating security situation.

Nkanu West, Nkanu East, Enugu South, Enugu North, and Enugu East are the five local government areas.

According to reports, the 2:30 p.m. meeting was called to brainstorm with leaders and stakeholders from various Council Areas in order to find a long-term solution to the state’s rising violent attacks and killings.

Five people were killed, numerous more were injured, and property worth millions of naira was destroyed by hoodlums during the state council election on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by Steve Oruruo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, the meeting will be held at Government House in Enugu.

The chairmen of the five LGAs, all members of the State House of Assembly representing constituencies within the affected councils, traditional rulers and others were invited.

“All invitees to this meeting are expected to be seated by 2:30pm on Thursday, the 24th day of February, 2022 at the Government House, Enugu,” the statement added.

Hoodlums had killed no fewer than 15 persons including security operatives within the state capital in less than 14 days.
