Enugu governor-elect’s certificate is fake, not from NYSC – DG

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig Gen YD Ahmed, has disclosed that the discharge certificate being paraded by Peter Mbah, the incoming governor of Enugu State, was not granted by the organisation.

The argument over whether Mbah has a valid NYSC certificate or not did not arise, according to Brig Gen Ahmed, who made an appearance on Friday’s episode of Arise TV’s breakfast show. This is because the general informed the PDP candidate for governor in 2023 that the certificate he had presented was a fake.

“He came to me and I called my director to confirm the certificate and we discovered that the certificate was fake and I told him…I wonder how elites who have gone to school will resort to black market certificates.

“Everyone knows how we issue our certificate in NYSC we don’t give it in hotel rooms or houses,” the DG said.

Peter Mbah, the incoming governor of Enugu State, has launched a lawsuit against the NYSC and is seeking N20 billion in damages for injuries allegedly inflicted as a result of the controversy surrounding his certificate.

Recall that the NYSC released a letter in response to a non-governmental organization’s inquiry stating that the discharge certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission was not issued by them, which led to public awareness of the controversy surrounding Mbah’s discharge certificate in February 2023.
