Evans: Fire incident halts court proceedings
The trial of a convicted kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans, charged with attempted kidnapping before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos, Nigeria, has been postponed due to a fire incident that prevented defendants from being transported to court.
Evans is on trial alongside Joseph Emeka for the attempted kidnapping of Chief Vincent Obianodo, chairman of Young Shall Grow Motors.
The court determined on June 15 that Obianodo’s testimony would be heard via the Zoom app on Friday.
During Friday’s court session, Justice Taiwo reported that a fire incident affected the defendants’ transportation.
She said, “I was informed by the Officer in Charge of prison that there was a fire incident which affected the transportation of the defendants to court.
“For security reasons, the defendants cannot be present in court.”
Justice Taiwo adjourned the case until July 25, 2022, for continuation of the trial.
