The former attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, has disclosed that he was invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) following the recent attack on his convoy in Kebbi State.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, Malami said, “I can confirm that I have been invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) to support investigation over attack on my person and convoy in Kebbi State on the 1st of September, 2025.”

He added, **“The petition is apparently triggered by opposition high profile political elements as in the state.

“I must commend the DSS for the professional and transparent manner in which they have conducted their inquiry. I was treated with dignity and respect, and I remain committed to cooperating fully with the Department to ensure that their investigation is concluded successfully.”**

On September 1, Malami’s convoy was attacked by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital. The incident occurred shortly after his return to Kebbi for a condolence visit.

During the assault, about 10 vehicles in his convoy were damaged, while some of his supporters sustained injuries.

On September 10, Malami submitted petitions to the national security adviser (NSA), inspector-general of police (IGP), director-general of the DSS, as well as the comptroller-generals of immigration and civil defence, alleging a plot to destabilise Kebbi State through the influx of political thugs.

He further claimed that some politicians were collaborating with foreign mercenaries from the Niger Republic to cause unrest in the state.

The former AGF also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of complicity in the attack, urging security agencies to block the movement of mercenaries and arms into Kebbi.

Malami, who recently defected from the APC to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleged that loyalists of Governor Nasir Idris were responsible for orchestrating the violence.
