Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, was on Monday seen at the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Sources within the anti-graft agency told TheCable that Okowa’s visit was linked to an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misappropriation during his time in office.
The former governor was arrested by the EFCC in November 2024 over allegations involving the diversion of N1.3 trillion during his eight-year administration in Delta State.
He was also accused of using state funds to acquire properties in Asaba, the state capital, and Abuja.
Reacting after his arrest, Okowa maintained that state resources were “judiciously used” throughout his tenure and said he had no concerns about being investigated.
“Whatever that is going on, I am not worried, and I have spoken about it. I am not afraid to be investigated,” Okowa said.
“I may not be a saint, but I know I stepped in there as governor with a full hope and desire to help people to give the best for ourselves in this state within the limit of our resources.”
Okowa served as Delta State governor from 2015 to 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He was also the running mate to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election on the PDP platform.
In April 2025, Okowa defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside his successor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and several other political officeholders in Delta State.
