Former Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 gubernatorial election, Senator Ayogu Eze, has reportedly died at the age of 66.
Senator Ayogu Eze, born in 1958 and a former member of the Nigerian Senate from 2007 to 2015, reportedly passed away in an Abuja hospital following a lengthy illness.
Initially a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eze had shifted his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he remained a prominent figure in Enugu State politics until his death.
Although the news of his passing has become public, neither his family nor his party has yet issued an official statement regarding his death.
Prior to his senatorial career, Eze was part of the Enugu State government under Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, serving as the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism.
Before his tenure as a federal lawmaker, he served as the Special Adviser on Public Affairs to Governor Nnamani.
In the Senate, Eze was named the chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Media, serving as the official spokesperson for the Senate.
During his eight years in the Senate, he also played a significant role on the Constitution Drafting and Amendment Committee, which was responsible for making several amendments to Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution.
