Former Kaduna State Governor Muktar Ramalan Yero has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) five months ago.

Yero, who served as governor from 2012 to 2015 under the PDP, made the announcement of his defection to the ruling APC. He explained that since his departure from the PDP, several political parties, including the APC, had approached him. After discussions with representatives of his political associates, they collectively decided to join the APC.

In a statement issued on February 12, 2024, Yero emphasized that his decision to join the APC was based on the ruling party’s invitation to him and his associates. He also disclosed that they had met with the state governor to discuss their decision and seek his support.

Yero urged his supporters to join him in the APC, highlighting their collective responsibility to contribute to the progress and development of the state and the nation.

Responding to Yero’s defection, Kaduna State PDP Secretary Ibrahim Wosono stated that while Yero’s decision was not unexpected, it would not significantly impact the fortunes of the PDP in the upcoming general elections. Wosono emphasized that the party’s strength transcends any individual member, citing past instances where prominent figures left the party without causing its demise.

Wosono underscored the resilience of the PDP, citing historical examples of key figures who had left the party while it continued to thrive. He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to withstand Yero’s defection and maintain its strength in future elections.
