Former Senator representing Katsina South, Bello Mandiya, has died at the age of 62.
Mandiya reportedly passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026, according to a statement by Ibrahim Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda.
Reacting to the death, Governor Radda expressed shock and described the former lawmaker’s passing as a major loss to both Katsina State and Nigeria.
“I received with shock and deep sadness the news of the death of Senator Bello Mandiya. His passing is a great loss to Katsina State and Nigeria,” the governor said.
Radda said Mandiya was a dedicated public servant whose contributions to the development of the state and the country would be remembered.
The governor noted that Mandiya spent part of his career in public service and served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, before winning election to the Senate.
He represented Katsina South Senatorial District in the Ninth Senate between 2019 and 2023.
“Senator Mandiya dedicated part of his life to public service and served our people with commitment. His contributions will remain remembered,” Radda added.
According to the governor, Mandiya’s experience in both state and federal government contributed significantly to his public service record.
“His experience and service at both the state and federal levels remain part of his legacy,” Radda said.
Radda extended his condolences to Mandiya’s family, former Governor Masari, residents of Katsina South, his political associates and friends, as well as his former colleagues in the Ninth Senate.
“I pray Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. May Allah give his family and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss,” Radda added.
