Ex-Minister appeals for calm, asks Tinubu to consider demands

Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has urged President Bola Tinubu to address the concerns raised by the #EndBadGovernance protesters, as the demonstrations continued into their second day.

Dalung, who joined the protests on Friday at the old airport roundabout in Jos, also called on the protesters to remain peaceful and avoid violence, urging them to make their demands without engaging in vandalism or harassment.

“As one of the oldest comrades, I can’t ignore the grievances of young people facing poverty, hunger, and insecurity,” he said. “I will provide leadership to ensure we have a peaceful demonstration. The main goal of this protest is to urge the President to reconsider some of his economic policies that have caused significant hardship.”

Dalung also appealed to the people of Plateau to maintain peace during the protests, noting that the region faces unique challenges. He expressed gratitude for the peaceful conduct of the demonstrators, highlighting an instance where Muslims were provided water for ablution and protection while they prayed.

On Friday, more residents of Plateau participated in the protest, voicing their dissatisfaction with the prevailing hardship, hunger, and poverty. Security personnel were present to prevent any potential hijacking of the demonstrations by hoodlums intent on causing chaos.
