The media aide to Chris Ngige, Fred Chukwuelobe, has clarified that the former Anambra state governor is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), dismissing rumours that he was abducted by unknown assailants.

According to Chukwuelobe, he received numerous calls from friends and journalists seeking confirmation of reports claiming Ngige had been “kidnapped.” In a Facebook post, he explained that Ngige is with the EFCC and was neither “abducted” nor “kidnapped,” adding that further details will be shared later.

Efforts to reach Dele Oyewale, spokesperson for the EFCC, were unsuccessful, as he did not answer calls or respond to messages.

This update comes shortly after an attack on Ngige’s convoy on November 27 along the Nkpor–Nnobi road in Idemili North LGA, where gunmen disguised in police and army uniforms opened fire, killing a woman who was recording the incident and injuring a police officer and several civilians. Ngige was not present in the convoy during the attack.
