Former President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the renaming of various airports across the country.
He did it about 10 hours to the expiration of his tenure.
In a statement released to Journalists on Sunday night and signed by Odutayo Oluseyi, the Head, Press and Public Affairs,
Ministry of Aviation, the airports now bear the names of prominent Nigerians, living and dead, who have served the country in various capacities.
The gesture is in recognition of their individual contribution to the development of the nation in different sectors.
Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, had Port Harcourt International airport named after him. Also, the Ebonyi International airport was named after the second President of the Nigerian Senate in the fourth republic, Chuba Wilberforce Okadigbo.
Akure airport is now Olumuyiwa Bernard Aliu airport.
Kaduna Airport is now General Hassan Usman Katsina airport, among others.
