The former special assistant on digital communications to the late Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has revealed that Yusuf Buhari, the ex-president’s son, has announced his intention to contest for a seat in the house of representatives in 2027.

Speculation had earlier spread on social media on Monday night regarding Yusuf’s reported political ambition.

In a letter dated April 3 and said to have been signed by him, Yusuf notified stakeholders of his plan to run for the federal legislative seat representing the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” the letter reads.

In a post on his X page, Ahmad confirmed the development, stating that the decision followed broad consultations with relevant stakeholders.

“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.

Since his father left office, Yusuf has largely stayed out of the public spotlight, making this declaration his most notable political step so far.
