Ex-SDP governorship candidate, Akingboye is dead

Bamidele Akingboye, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) candidate in the November 16, 2024 Ondo State governorship election, has died.

His aide, Oyeniyi Iwakun, confirmed in a statement that Akingboye passed away on Wednesday at his residence in Victoria Garden City, Lagos.

“Known for his unwavering integrity, humility, and generosity, Akingboye left an indelible mark as a successful businessman and a mentor to many across Nigeria and beyond,” Iwakun said.

Akingboye is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings. The family has asked for privacy, adding that burial arrangements will be announced in due course.

He contested the November 2024 poll on the SDP platform but lost to incumbent governor and APC candidate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
