EXCLUSIVE: Ex-CBN spokesman, Tony Ede is dead

Verified information reaching NewsClick Nigeria on Wednesday night has it that a former spokesperson of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Tony Ede has passed on. 

According to sources who confided in NewsClick Nigeria, Ede died on Wednesday night in Warri, Delta State after a few days battle with pneumonia.

NewsClick Nigeria gathered that Ede was the pioneer head of Communications desk of the apex bank. He was appointed in 1998 and held on to the post till 2005. He was one of the founding fathers of The Association of Corporate & Marketing Communication Professionals of Banks (ACAMB) founded in 1996. He was also a strong pillar of the Financial Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN).

Ede’s demise was confirmed late Wednesday night by ACAMB President, Rasheed Bolarinwa in a terse statement.

According to Bolarinwa, Ede’s burial arrangements will be announced by his family.

“With total submission to the will of God for a life well spent, news reaching ACAMB ExCO few minutes ago is that we lost one of the Founding Fathers of ACAMB and former Spokesperson for Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Tony Ede.

“He’s said to have died after a brief illness in his country home, Warri Delta State.

“Further update on his transition and burial arrangements as announced by the Family, will be made available to everyone.

“May God grant his beautiful soul eternal rest and grant his family the fortitude to bear this loss, amen.

Please let us have the late Tony Ede’s family in our prayers at this trying moment,” the ACAMB President’s statement reads.
