Widespread social media posts which sections of the media (not including Newsclick Nigeria) sensationally reported that some Bank headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos went up in flames, was false.
Checks by Newsclick Nigeria to Victoria Island instead revealed that a diesel tank sitting atop two big generators outside an uncompleted office complex, went up in flames burning a parked Toyota Corrola nearby on Eletu Ogabi Street, off Adeola Odeku.
Men of Lagos fire service and combined team of Policemen and LASTMA officials according to eyewitness accounts, were on hand to quell the raging fire and kept traffic moving.
When Newsclick Nigeria Correspondent visited the scene, the fire had been quelled with Police patrol vehicles parked around and the road cleared for smooth passage of motorists and passers by.
Further digs by this medium to unravel the cause of the fire revealed that a fire from welding technicians working on the construction of the diesel tank sparked the fire which snowball into a raging inferno.
Mrs. Alice Nwachukwu who witnessed the incident told Newsclick Nigeria that two of the workmen were burnt beyond recognition while four others who received first degree burns were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
