Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has accused United States President Donald Trump of lying to the world over his claim that Christians are being killed in Nigeria.
Falana made the remark on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The senior lawyer, however, said Trump’s allegation should serve as a wake-up call for the Federal Government to take stronger action against the widespread killings by gunmen across the country.
He noted that the government has a constitutional duty to protect lives and property, questioning why such attacks continue to occur despite repeated assurances.
Last Friday, Trump claimed that Christianity was facing an existential threat in Nigeria, describing the alleged killings as a “mass slaughter.”
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” Trump wrote.
The US president added that America “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening” and said he had instructed Congressman Riley Moore and House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole to investigate the situation.
