It was all tears as the Abia State Police Command presented cheques totaling N21,477,050.80k to the families of ten police officers who died in the line of duty.

On behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, the money was presented to the next of kin of the deceased officers by the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede, in Umuahia.

The CP, represented by ACP Jane Mbanefo, advised the benefiting families not to misuse the money during the presentation at the Abia State Police Command’s headquarters on Bende road in Umuahia.

Agbede explained that the funds were part of IGP Usman Alkali Baba’s ongoing Group Life Insurance Welfare scheme for the families of deceased police officers for the 2020/2021 policy year.

Declaring IGP’s message to the families of the late officers, Agbede said the money would go a long way in alleviating the pains and sufferings of deceased officers’ families, adding that officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force would continue to discharge their duties of securing the nation.

One of the next of kin who spoke on behalf of others, Justice E. John, thanked the IG for the insurance welfare package, pointing out that the initiative showed that the sacrifices of the late officers were recognised even in death.

John assured that the money given to them would be well utilised.
