The family of the late Afenifere leader and elder statesman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has announced burial arrangements following his death at the age of 100.

In a statement signed by Dr Taiwo O. Fasoranti on behalf of the family, a Christian wake-keeping service is scheduled for Wednesday, December 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at his residence within the Omolere Nursery and Primary School Compound.

The funeral service and interment will take place on Thursday, December 17, at St David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure, Ondo State, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will follow immediately at the church cemetery, while a reception will be held afterwards at his residence.

An outing and thanksgiving service is also scheduled for Sunday, December 20, at 10:00 a.m. at St David’s Cathedral, Ijomu, Akure.

The family appealed for prayers and the presence of well-wishers as they prepare to honour the late elder statesman.

Fasoranti’s death was announced on Tuesday, October 20, by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who described him as a revered elder statesman whose life was marked by service to Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.

Fasoranti, who celebrated his 100th birthday in May, was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle and a leading voice in Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation.

President Bola Tinubu and other political leaders paid tribute to him following his death, highlighting his contributions to public service, democratic governance and the development of the Yoruba people.
