Fatal crash on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway claims two Lives

Two people were confirmed dead and one person was injured in a crash between a bus and a Mazda car at Ayedere on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The Spokesperson, of Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the accident to journalists in Abeokuta.

Akinbiyi said that the accident happened at 7:10 a.m. when the driver of an unregistered Mazda car drove in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a Mazda bus with the registration number SEY 311 ZY.

The TRACE spokesperson made known that the drivers of the two vehicles died while a motor boy sustained injuries

Akinbiyi said that the injured bus conductor had been taken to a nearby hospital before the arrival of TRACE, and the driver of the car had been taken away by his family for burial.

Akinbiyi also confirmed that the body of the bus driver had been taken to the Ifo General Hospital morgue.

“According to an eyewitness, the white Mazda bus, loaded with foodstuffs was on its rightful lane, outbound Abeokuta. The unregistered Mazda car, driving in a direction prohibited by traffic law collided with the bus, leaving the drivers of both vehicles dead on the spot due to the impact of the collision.”

“The motorboy of the white Mazda bus sustained varying degrees of injuries and has been taken to a private clinic for medical attention,” he said.

Akinbiyi cautioned drivers against engaging in route violations, emphasizing the numerous risks associated with such actions.
