Father blames JAMB for daughter’s death at 19

On May 12, 2025, tragedy struck the Opesusi family. Timilehin Opesusi, a bright and hardworking 19-year-old, took her own life after receiving a disappointing UTME score of 146 — a steep drop from the 190 she scored the previous year.

Her father, Femi Opesusi, recounts that she immediately panicked upon seeing the result, insisting it wasn’t hers.

Trying to calm her down, he promised to pay her fees for LASUSTECH regardless of the score. But within the hour, a frantic call from her sister revealed Timilehin had ingested rat poison. Femi rushed to video-call them, only to witness his daughter in her final moments on a hospital bed, struggling to survive.

Timilehin, who aspired to study Biochemistry and had even styled professors’ hair while waiting for admission, showed no prior signs of suicidal intent. Her father deeply regrets not letting her attend the Federal University in Offa the previous year due to financial constraints and distance.

He now holds JAMB accountable, alleging result tampering and demanding the actual score she earned — a final wish she reportedly pleaded for before dying. Despite the public outcry, no official from JAMB or the government has contacted the family. For Femi, closure begins with truth — and the real UTME score his daughter worked so hard for.
