Five people have been charged by the Anambra State Police Command with various rape, sexual abuse, and child abuse offenses before a Special Court in Awka.

One of the accused is a middle-aged father who had sex with his daughter and gave her a serious viral illness.

Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s spokesperson, issued a press release stating that the suspects appeared in court after the State Criminal Investigation Department conducted investigations.

According to Ikenga, the crimes took place in various parts of the state. Ikioye Orutugu, the Commissioner of Police, denounced the acts as horrible and intolerable, highlighting the Command’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable individuals, particularly children, and making sure those responsible face justice.

“Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department have completed investigations into several serious cases of sexual and child abuse, including that of a father who has been having an affair with his daughter and infected her with a serious viral disease,” the statement stated. Today, May 6, 2026, the Special Court in Awka will arraign the five suspects. The case details are listed below.

On April 22, 2026, Ogbunike Police Division Headquarters reported a 16-year-old girl’s defilement to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Gender Unit.

According to preliminary investigation, the girl was allegedly attacked by Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, a 26-year-old male security guard at the estate, while she was visiting a friend there. He allegedly forced her to participate in illegal sexual relations by dragging her into an incomplete building on the estate.

A confessional statement has been made by the suspect. A defilement case involving an 11-year-old girl was moved from Neni Police Divisional Headquarters on April 23, 2026, according to Ikenga.

The 36-year-old suspect, Uchenna Muojama, is accused of forcing the victim into his barbershop and having illicit sexual relations with her.

For legal proceedings, medical reports have been acquired. In a similar vein, on April 21, 2025, a case was transferred from Central Police Station Awka in which Chukwudi Nwayata, a 52-year-old male suspect, exploited an 11-year-old girl’s mental state by luring her to his house and forcing her to have unlawful carnal knowledge.

A 20-year-old victim in an incest case was transferred from Oko Police Station on April 23, 2026. Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, the 46-year-old suspect, is accused of having sex with the victim since she was 17.

This was discovered after the victim tested positive for HIV while in the hospital. A confessional statement has been made by the suspect. Eucharia Ezenwanne, a female suspect, allegedly used a wire to severely abuse two children on April 28, 2026: Echetuna Ezenwanne, age six, and Chikaima Ezenwanne, age four.

According to the suspect, she adopted the kids from an Onitsha motherless babies’ home. In light of this, Ikioye Orutugu, the Commissioner of Police, called the case “heinous and unacceptable” and reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to safeguarding vulnerable individuals, particularly children, and making sure criminals are prosecuted.
