The Police Service Commission has approved the appointment of CP Peter Opara as the substantive Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, Opara succeeds CP Benneth Igwe, who has been promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police and posted to Zone 7, Abuja, as the Zonal AIG.
Before his new role, CP Opara served as the CP in the Force Secretary’s Office and was the Deputy Commissioner of Administration and Finance at the Imo State Command. He also held the position of Personal Assistant to former PSC Chairman, IGP Mike Okiro (Rtd).
CP Opara’s previous roles include DCP Legal Studies at the Police Academy, POLAC, Wudil Kano, Area Commander for Aba and Uyo, Area Crime Officer in Kubwa, and Senior Deputy Defence Adviser at Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
He has also served as Personal Assistant to several senior officers, including the Inspector General of Police, DIG Works, DIG Operations, and the CP of Lagos State Command.
Additionally, the Commission has approved the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police to appoint CP Festus Eribo as the new substantive Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, replacing CP Miller Gagere Dantawaye, who was one of four CPs recommended for posting as substantive Commissioners of Police.
CP Festus Eribo, a law graduate of the University of Calabar was at a time Liason Officer at the Police Service Commission, and later Assistant Commissioner, Federal Operations, Force Headquarters.
He also served as the Area Commander for Area M and Area F in Lagos, as well as the State CID in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Additionally, he held the position of Area Commander in Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State, Deputy Commissioner of Zonal CID in Zone 9, Umuahia, and Deputy Commissioner of Operations for the Kogi State Command.
He was also the substantive Commissioner of Police in Taraba State.
The Commission had previously approved the posting of four Commissioners of Police, including those for Abia, Lagos, and Ebonyi States.
