The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced that it will remove all illegal settlements in Abuja and its surroundings.

The statement, signed by the FCTA’s Chief Press Secretary, Anthony Ogunleye, did not specify the number of buildings that will be demolished.

The statement refuted the claim that the FCT Minister owned an armored Lexus LX 600 worth N300 million, stating that the vehicle was a regular SUV.

Ogunleye said that the minister did not specify the number of houses to be demolished or the communities where the demolition would take place.

The statement read “For the avoidance of doubt, the Minister did not in any of his pronouncements list the areas or the number of illegal houses to be removed, rather his emphasis has always been that illegal settlements and structures would be removed for the greater good of the public.

The minister has a long history of commitment to responsible urban development and the welfare of the people, as demonstrated during his tenure as governor of Rivers State. He has assured residents of the FCT of his continued commitment to these values since assuming office as minister. The claim that he is orchestrating large-scale demolitions is not only false but also lacks any basis in reality.

Ogunleye also expressed his frustration with a report that claimed the minister had said he would fix Abuja in 6 days. He said that Wike had never made such a statement and that the report was completely false.
