Armed thugs attacked the Surulere Local Government Area in Oyo State and kidnapped a man only known as Dr Rasheed.

According to reports, the man sees patients from the nearby areas in a private clinic.

The ‘doctor’ was taken roughly 72 hours after Christopher Bakare, the farm supervisor of the late Adebayo Alao-Akala, was freed by his abductors, which is believed to have generated fear among the locals and farmers.

Journalists were told by some that the gunmen—whom they believe to be Fulani herdsmen—invaded the clinic at around 9 p.m. on Friday and took him hostage, while others claimed that he was waylaid on the highway and taken captive.

Police allegedly sprang into action after receiving a report of the kidnapping at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Orile Igbon.

Farmers Stated that communities were now living in dread as a result of the incidents.

He said, “Kidnapping is now becoming a daily occurrence in the area and government security agencies should curb it quickly.

“Akala Farms’ supervisor was kidnapped last week and this one also happened just after the supervisor was released.

“How can farmers who work in the bush be going there now. Kidnappers have turned this place to their theatre of operations and government should come to our aid?”

The victim, who runs a private clinic in the Gbede town near the border of Oyo and Kwara states, is a quack, according to some Ogbomoso doctors who told our correspondent that.

When reached, Adewale Osifeso, the police public relations officer for the Oyo State Police Command, stated an inquiry into the event had started.

The PPRO while confirming the incident told our correspondent, “Investigation is in progress, update will be provided accordingly.”

Adebayo Lawal, the deputy governor of Oyo State, has meantime urged the state’s residents to keep praying for peace in the state and upholding it.

According to a statement made by Taiwo Adisa, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Lawal made this declaration on Friday following the Jumat prayer at the Oja’ba Central Mosque in Ibadan.

He said, “This administration is for peace and there is no other way we can achieve that or continue to achieve that except by prayers. Nigeria is in turmoil – banditry, kidnapping and all sort of crimes. If you isolate Oyo State, you will discover that the crime rate here is at its lowest ebb and we want to maintain that.

“There is no other thing we can aspire to achieve if the security is not there. As Muslims, we must continue to pray for stability, peace and prosperity.”
